On the pre-war housing around Ozark's downtown square, what is holding the gutter up is often original timber fascia that is already at the limit of what it can carry. Fitting guards to that is not a neutral improvement. It is an accelerant.
We check the fascia first, always, before we will quote a guard on a house of this age. If a hanger screw does not bite, the conversation stops there and we say so - carpentry first, guards later, and we would rather lose the sale than fit a product that brings the run down in three winters.

It is a better case than fine pine straw, which needs micro-mesh to stop at all.
A standard screen or louvre is usually sufficient under oak, which keeps the cost at the lower end. We would only specify micro-mesh on the streets that also carry pine.
